Mitsubishi electric car for 2010

mitsubishi_i_miev_regularScandal-plagued Mitsubishi Motors Corp. said Wednesday it will start selling electric cars in Japan in 2010 — an attempt to showcase its technological prowess and fix its battered brand image.

The Tokyo-based automaker, struggling to regain customer trust after repeated cover-ups of auto defects, showed off a mini test vehicle equipped with motors embedded in the rear wheels that run on a lithium-ion batteries.

“For a company with small sales like ours, this is a way we can assert a meaningful presence,” Tetsuro Aikawa, who oversees product development and environmental research, told reporters at the company’s headquarters.

Aikawa said the planned mini-electric car, which will be available for test fleets next year, has a cruising range of 90 miles on a single charge and can be recharged in a regular home. The top speed is around 90 miles an hour.

Mitsubishi executive Tetsuro Aikawa uses a cutaway display to show how the company’s electric vehicle motors in the wheel are powered by lithium-ion batteries on the bottom of the car’s body.
Mitsubishi is targeting housewives who drive to pick up children from school, go grocery shopping and won’t need to travel long distances, Aikawa said, adding that they are expected to enjoy owning a car that never needs to fill up at a gas station.

Officials said the electric car will cost slightly more than a comparable gas-engine vehicle but they hope to keep prices down through Japanese government aid available for buyers of environmentally friendly cars. Although the price isn’t decided, it may sell for under $19,000, according to Mitsubishi Motors.

Electric vehicles have been available in small numbers around the world, but they have been too expensive to catch on in big numbers. The fact that they need recharging has been another obstacle with drivers.

Most other automakers have focused on combining electric power with a gasoline engine in what’s known has a hybrid system.

Automakers are also working on replacing the internal combustion system with fuel cells, but obstacles include costs and technical issues.

MORE FQ- POWER ADDED TO TWIN-CLUTCH SPORTS SHIFT TRANSMISSION (SST)
Lancer Evolution FQ-330 SST adds 36 bhp and 22 lb ft torque to the Sports Shift Transmission line-up
Since its introduction in 2008, the Lancer Evolution X has been an enormous success, gaining popular acclaim from customers and the media alike. Now, after extensive testing, Mitsubishi Motors in the UK has added the eagerly awaited FQ-330 SST to its already impressive line-up.
The FQ-330 SST model utilises a breathing kit and ECU re-map to accomplish its enhanced power output, and has been systematically tested over the past 6 months to achieve successful results. This power upgrade noticeably improves not only the acceleration, but also significantly enhances the drive.
Power increased to 329 bhp
The power upgrade to 329 bhp is achieved by the addition of a high performance exhaust and downpipe, an intercooler piping kit, racing suction pipe, and upgraded CAT, which delivers an additional 36 bhp and 22 lb ft of torque mated to the advanced 6-speed Twin-Clutch Sports Shift Transmission.
Product line up and specification
The Lancer Evolution X FQ-330 SST includes the following standard equipment:
* Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC)
* 18″ Enkei alloy wheels
* Brembo braking system, including 2-piece front brakes
* Eibach coil springs
* Bilstein shock absorbers
* HID xenon headlamps with Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS)
* Recaro front seats
* Bluetooth hands-free system
* Leather sports steering wheel with audio controls
* Front, side, curtain and knee airbags
* Privacy glass
* Front fog lamps
* ISO Fix
* Automatic headlamp and wiper sensors
* Remote central locking
* CAT1 approved alarm/immobiliser
* CAT5 approved tracker system + 1 year free subscription
* HDD satellite navigation system
* Rockford premium audio & Music Server – 6 premium speakers + subwoofer
* iPod/MP3 auxiliary input port
SST transmission
The GSR SST benefits from the fitment of Mitsubishi’s 6 speed TC-SST (Twin Clutch Sports Shift Transmission) automated manual gearbox with steering column mounted magnesium paddle shifters.
This advanced transmission puts odd (1st, 3rd, 5th) and even (2nd, 4th and 6th) gears on separate input shafts, each with its own clutch, and switches between these clutches to produce an almost seamless and lightning-fast gear change in either fully automatic or manual transmission modes. A switch located at the base of the gear selector allows the driver to choose between Normal, Sport and Super Sport modes for optimum shifts in a wide variety of situations ranging from driving around town to taking tight lines on winding roads. Because the TC-SST uses clutches rather than a torque converter to transmit power it benefits from improved efficiency and better fuel economy.
Colours and price
The FQ-330 SST is available in Cool Silver (M); Orient Red (M); Lightning Blue (P); and Phantom Black (P) colours with metallic and pearlescent paint included in the price of £35,999, £3,000 more than the FQ-300 STT variant.
Insurance groups and servicing
A testament to Mitsubishi’s confidence in the FQ-330 SST’s reliability comes in the form of its 3-year unlimited mileage warranty, and pan-European breakdown and recovery service.
Servicing too is highly affordable with the first 3-years / 30,000 mile servicing available for just £495 with the Mitsubishi Service Plan. The insurance group rating for the new model is 20A, in line with the 5-speed manual variant with the same power output.

Mitsubishi released its UK-only hot version of Lancer FQ400, as 400 stands for number of horsepowers it has. Mitsu says it is softer and easier to drive than the old FQ, yeah right!
It is powered by the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo engine, but they’ve fiddled with the ECU and also installed a new set of exhaust system so the power goes up way over its head! it develops 405hp and 400lb ft of torque.  The power is delivered by a manual transmission which unlike the old version doesn’t come with a racing clutch. nevertheless it goes from stand still to 60mph in around 3.5seconds! which is supercar territory.
The car features a new bodykit whit new vents and air intakes which gives it a more distinctive racing look than the normal ones. Lancer Evo X FQ400 is planned for 100 units and will be priced at around 50 grand.

Mitsubishi i MiEV Sport Air Concept

mitsubishi-miev

Mitsubishi is developing their very own EV in form of a small sportscar which will debut at this year’s Geneva Autoshow in March. Mitsu says their idea of EV is different than other mainstream manufacturers because they are going to make a proper sportscar with zero emission. Fine, but maybe they still have not heard of Tesla!
Blending its sporting heritage with leading expertise in the development of the EV, Mitsubishi Motors is providing a clear new look on the world, in more ways than one. The clear removable top of the i MiEV SPORT AIR Concept will be premiered at the forthcoming 2009 Geneva Motor Show.
Taking a step beyond being merely ‘green’, this all-electric zero CO2 emission sports concept builds upon the fundamentals of the EV by marrying:
the powerful acceleration and high torque inherent to electric motors,
the safe driving dynamics that stem from i MiEV’s lithium-ion battery pack located within its long wheelbase and the low centre of gravity.
The i MiEV SPORT AIR is a new-age “pocket rocket” and signals the direction in which the Mitsubishi sports EV may take in the future.

ChargeSpeed CZ4A Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X CZ4A

ChargeSpeed is really the symbol of pure Japanese tuning, with those typical Samurai bodykits and Fast and Furious-style boy racer looks. Honestly we don’t like any of these Japanese toys, but ChargeSpeed’s recent treatment for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, caught our eyes. It’s aggressive and cool, if you just wipe those stickers off it!
They have done many editions of this CZ4A Lancer EvoX (pictures below) but this latest model features newly designed bumpers with massive air intakes at front and a new diffuser and double exhausts at the back. Other details like aero side mirrors, side skirts, roof fins and rear spoiler are similar to previous versions.ChargeSpeed also lowers the car by 10mm and fits the car with 18 inch wheels covered with Dunlop Direzza DZ101 tires.
ChargeSpeed Lancer EvoX is a suitable car for you, if you are going to start a street racing career!!!

Mitsubishi MMR 25, A Rally Concept Car…

MMR25

MMR25

The MMR25 incorporates an omnidirectional wheel design that consists of eight independently-controlled electric motors within each wheel hub. This makes the MMR25 the first and only “8 x 4” wheel drive vehicle. The rotational direction of the tires allows the vehicle to be driven forward while pointing the nose of the vehicle in any direction, instead of drifting you can actually drive sideways (or at any angle.) Innovative “Oblique Aerodynamics” gives the vehicle aero advantages when driving sideways.”

The MMR25 drives sideways into a corner and points the nose of the car outwards before even reaching the apex of the curve while driving sideways or backwards.
